"Writing mixed-race into Critical Race Discourse: Learnings from Brazil and South Africa" charts complex racialising processes through workshops in Brazil and South Africa, using Black decolonial feminisms and postcolonial methodologies to amplify marginalised voices. We aim to create an archive of multifarious racialised experiences, examining their implications for critical race theoretical frameworks as we ponder alternative futures.
Taking place over a week in each city, participants will create a writing piece exploring the project’s core dimensions: Understanding, Writing and Dreaming Mixed Race.
Historical policies on racial mixing (e.g., Brazil’s 1914 immigration policy and South Africa’s 1927 Immorality Act) will be used as references throughout the three dimensions of the workshop:
